Curtains for Big Brown ?
It could be curtains for Big Brown. Not because of the post position, not because of the track condition, not because of the unlikelihood that he could win with only three starts. The reason is that this game makes you humble. Whenever I have a nice score and feel that I have the game figured out and the mutuel pools are my oyster, I’m in for a rude awakening. I expect it is the same for the horsemen. With that said, the connections were on CNBC the other day being interviewed. The were promoting what they referred to as an equine hedge fund. Trying to drum up interest in investing just before Derby day.
Putting the cart before the horse so to speak? If that is not the jinx of all jinxes I don’t know what is. Usually when the mania is at its peak is when the bubble bursts. Not wishing any bad luck on these fine gentleman but things don’t always go as planned.
A Big Brown win wouldn’t upset me. My paultry $10 double with the Oaks winner is enough to soothe any misgivings I may have over a failed prediction. If the track ends up sloppy fast at Derby time his chances are better. The outside is where you want to be and the breeding Danzig, well you can’t get a more prolific wet sire. On the sire note here’s one to take with you after today . First time turfers out of Seattle Slew are excellent bets and out of Broad Brush are even better. Have a good day all.
